SELCO credit union started as a way for neighbors to look out for one another. In 1936 local teachers and school employees in Oregon combined their funds together, and when someone fell on hard times, they used the pooled money as a loan to help them out.

Today, they have locations in 26 counties throughout Oregon. SELCO utilizes mobile banking and wallets, allowing members to have 24/7 online access to their finances, and through Shared Branching, their members can access their money at 5000 + credit union branches and 30,000 ATMs coast to coast.

SELCO quickly realized that their website also needed to be aligned with the growth and improvement that their organization was going through. They came to Affirma to help them find a solution for the outdated site.

We began this engagement with a planning phase. Our team met with SELCO to go over exactly what their current pain points were, their specifics for the site, and what they wanted to see this site do for their organization.

Bringing SELCO’s Ideas to Life

The Goal

To rebrand the front end and back end of their current website to have a more functional and intuitive site that would increase member engagement and bring in new customers.

TML and gave it to these applications to make sure that the branding remained the same, as to not confuse members and prospective clients.

Creative + Custom Dev Team Up

Our Design team came on to the project to help create a more modern design, one that both members and non-members could easily navigate. The design was simple, intuitive, and highly functional. The drop-down menu clearly labels each webpage, so the member doesn’t have to work hard to find what they are looking for.

Our Custom Development team then implemented the designs that Creative had planned out. They moved SELCO’s site over to Sitefinity from a different CMS, which enabled their internal teams to be able to publish new content and manage marketing campaigns on a robust, scalable infrastructure. Our team moved 150 pages over and created 8 responsive templates/layouts. The new site was responsive on 3 devices- desktop, mobile, and tablet, ensuring that members were able to access the site no matter where they were at.

SELCO also had 3rd party applications outside of selco.com, which caused some issues when it came to the site brand. Our team developed CSS H

Highlight: A New Mortgage Calculator & ATM Locator

A mortgage calculator is one of the most intriguing and useful tools on a credit union website when it comes to members, which is why it was one of the most important aspects of the site development. Our development team completely rebuilt SELCO’s calculator, testing it several times to make sure it worked properly.

Since we were under budget and on time, our team was also able to add an extra, special feature to the site: the ATM locator. Members can use this tool on the website, tablets, desktops, and mobile devices to find an ATM that is nearest to them wherever they are. This tool was an added benefit that our team was able to provide to SELCO, giving their members an easy and quick way to locate their ATM’s and branches.

The Result

Our Design and Development team worked together and created a modern and functional website for SELCO. Their new site is focused on the resources that matter to their members and is less cluttered, increasing usability sitewide. We also added more graphics and images which helps to communicate their messaging in a more compelling way to visitors.

We were pleased to work with SELCO on this project and excited that they trusted us enough to come back for other engagements.
