Overview

Increasing Seattle Chambers Member Dashboard Usability

The Seattle Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce was founded by local business leaders in 1882 to advocate for a vital business environment. Today, they represent 2,400 companies and a workforce of 750,000. Their main goal is to increase their member’s presence in the Seattle metropolitan region.

When someone becomes a member of the Seattle Chamber, they get access to their own ‘Member Dashboard’, a personal portal for members to update their information and find several useful resources such as savings tools and events, which is the Chamber’s main source of revenue.

However, they found that members were under-utilizing the resources provided through the dashboard. They were not updating their information, using the tools, or registering for many events. The Chamber wanted to fix this problem with an updated portal that was easier to navigate, had a better design, and provided an overall refresh to remind members of all the resources they have access to and to increase their event registrations.

Creative & Custom Dev Collide

This engagement kicked off with an onsite meeting between Affirma and the Seattle Chamber’s team to discuss their current system and discover the solutions they wanted to see out of this redesign. Our Creative Team stepped in and performed a UX analysis of the site and conducted stakeholder interviews to delve further into what they wanted out of their dashboard in terms of usability.

Using this data, our Creative Team then produced wireframes that outlined the UX/UI changes to the site without any visual design elements to discover what components need to be on the site in terms of functionality. Then they added visual design to the wireframes and sent several examples to the client to get feedback, making sure they would be satisfied with the final result. Affirma’s Custom Development Team was then brought in to implement the new designs and deployed rigorous testing to ensure the dashboard worked properly.

The Affirma team finished the member dashboard on schedule and under budget.

The Result

Affirma delivered an updated member dashboard for the Seattle Chamber of Commerce that not only looks good, but more importantly is member-focused. The new portal is simple, allowing members to find exactly what they need without having to sort through clutter. The member’s profile settings are clearly labeled, in the center of the page, and the links to the most popular sources are located on the right side and are clearly labeled.

This updated design provided a more engaging experience for their members. It made it easier for people to register for their events and utilize the other advantageous tools that the Chamber makes available to them. We were pleased that the work was done on schedule and under budget, which allowed the Chamber to add some additional unscheduled changes without any issue.
